TALKS TO CLUBS AND GROUPS
Our team of experienced and enthusiastic speakers are in great demand and advance booking is essential. Our speakers will visit your club (within reasonable driving distance of Maidenhead), but if you are local why not come to the Heritage Centre and combine a visit with a talk?

Choose your talk from one of these topics:

  • Grandma Flew Spitfires! A forgotten story of courage, skill and sacrifice.
  • White Waltham Airfield
  • The River Thames: from Cotswolds to the sea
  • The River Thames: from Henley to Windsor
  • Thames Valley Millionaires - Temple to Taplow
  • Up River: Arts & Crafts, River Enterprise, Murder Most Foul!
  • Maidenhead and the Movies including Hammer Horror, "Carry on Nurse" and Gerry Mr Thunderbirds Anderson
  • God Save the Queen! Royal connections of Maidenhead and district
  • Are you married? Or do you live in Maidenhead? Centuries of gossip and scandal!
  • Copper, Love and Stars : Ray Lodge - a 19th century Thames side villa
  • Doctor at the Dean: the life and times of a 1920s village doctor
  • The history of Maidenhead's hospitals
  • The fights over Cookham Commons (1799-1852)
  • The Kennet and Avon canal; the water road to Bath
  • Slow boat to Manchester: voyage through the canals of England
  • Flying high: a pilot's eye view includes aerial photographs, local, UK, Europe and further afield
  • The Bahamas - 700 Islands in the Sun : a personal perspective by Heritage Centre chairman Richard Poad, whose ancestors settled in the Bahamas over 200 years ago.

Talks are usually illustrated by slides (powerpoint) and last about 45 minutes. Some talks can be adapted for a shorter or longer period; we can be flexible, so please ask.

To discuss your requirements, please contact the Maidenhead Heritage Centre on 01628 780555 or email: info@maidenheadheritage.org.uk

GROUP VISITS

We are delighted to welcome pre-booked visits from clubs and groups of all ages (maximum number 30). To plan your visit, please contact us well in advance.

1st Furze Platt Brownies visited the museum on March 9th last year. Their Brown Owl told us that "the girls had a ball".

SCHOOLS

We love welcoming school groups to the Heritage Centre, and at all Key Stages we can help bring a topic alive by giving it a local slant: Romans, Tudors, Victorians, World War 2, Transport, Floods – we have knowledge and resources relating to all of these. Give us notice of what topics you are covering, tell us what you need and we will do everything we can do to help.

HOMEWORK ABOUT MAIDENHEAD?

Need help with a project? We have free local leaflets with maps and photographs and lots of local information. We have loads of reference books for you to use and space for you to work. Saturday is the best day to visit.
