3 classes from year 6 at Furze Platt Junior have visited us this term, and an enthusiastic and well-prepared class from Oldfield visited us on November 11th. They have all been studying World War II. During their visit our volunteers talked with them about growing up during the war and about rationing, gas masks, the black out, air raids and so on. The children all had a short go at flying our SPITFIRE SIMULATOR, so we now have a full squadron of pilots!
We love welcoming school groups to the Heritage Centre, and at all Key Stages we can help bring a topic alive by giving it a local slant: Romans, Tudors, Victorians, World War 2, Transport, Floods - we have knowledge and resources relating to all of these. Give us notice of what topics you are covering, tell us what you need and we will do everything we can do to help. Our new Education Officer will be in post in January and will be contacting schools about the changes in the National Curriculum, especially in History and Geography.
HOMEWORK ABOUT MAIDENHEAD?
Need help with a project? We have free local leaflets with maps and photographs and lots of local information. We have loads of reference books for you to use and space for you to work. Saturday is the best day to visit.
TALKS TO CLUBS AND GROUPS
Our team of experienced and enthusiastic speakers are in great demand and advance booking is essential. Our speakers will visit your club (within reasonable driving distance of Maidenhead), but if you are local why not come to the Heritage Centre and combine a visit with a talk?
Choose your talk from one of these topics:
Talks are usually illustrated by slides (powerpoint) and last about 45 minutes. Some talks can be adapted for a shorter or longer period; we can be flexible, so please ask.
To discuss your requirements, please contact the Maidenhead Heritage Centre on 01628 780555 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
We are delighted to welcome pre-booked visits from clubs and groups of all ages (maximum number 30). To plan your visit, please contact us well in advance.
When 1st Furze Platt Brownies visited the museum their Brown Owl told us that "the girls had a ball".
